Gammapedia:Namespaces

From Gammapedia
Jump to navigationJump to search

As part of the 6100 + 9 revamp of Gammapedia, namespaces are introduced. Pages will be separated into namespaces depending on what they are; i.e. characters, groups, weapons, etc. Additionally, each namespace will have its own infobox and link template. Page titles are of the form "namespace:title"; for example, this page is in the "Gammapedia" namespace (reserved for policy pages and project informaton).

The main namespace is reserved for things that fall outside the other namespaces.

Using Link Templates

All link templates are of the form {{letter|title}} and may be piped like so: {{letter|title|text}}. For example,

This is the preferred way to link to namespaced pages. If you would rather manually code the link, please remember to make sure the namespace doesn't show in the text. For this effect, you can use something like [[Character:Gammaman|]], which automatically expands to include the second half of the title in the text.

Canon namespaces

All content in these namespaces are to follow the canon guidelines.

Character

This namespace is for characters who inhabit the Gammasphere.

Group

This namespace is for groups of characters. This spans anywhere from criminal gangs and hero groups to committees and governmental organizations to companies. If it's a group of characters, it goes here.

Weapon

All the various weapons employed in struggles throughout the Gammasphere go here.

Power

Powers are abilities that characters or groups possess. This distinguishes them from weapons, which are tools employed by characters.

Nation

Sovereign states within the Earth and other planets of the Gammasphere. Note that the Gammasphere Earth is rather ill-defined (no attempt has made, or will be made, to establish where all the countries are on the surface of the planet relative to each other); as a result, anyone can put whatever the hell kind of nation they want there.

Location

Places in the Gammasphere, whether they be cities, planets, buildings, or just areas. Anything except for nations, which go in the Nation namespace.

Artifact

Legendary objects of great power. or simply legendary objects of great legend. Should not be used for everyday items.

Project namespaces

These namespaces are relevant to the Gammapedia project and derivatives, not to the universe. Pages in these namespaces might be from a real-world perspective.

Gammapedia

Used for pages about Gammapedia itself; policy pages and other info about the project.

Tale

Stories that are written about the Gammasphere and its inhabitants. Tale pages might be constantly in development, so nothing on them is final. A Tale could be a written story, a cartoon or comic series, or even an interactive adventure (read: game). The main page of a tale is written from a real-world perspective and describes the main characters of the tale, the plot, the people involved in it, and so forth. Actual episodes/chapters of the tale are in subpages. Finished tales might be posted to another site on the Internet, Note that reading tale pages that are in development makes one susceptible to spoilers (but, then again, reading the Gammapedia itself spoils pretty much any tale that could be written about it). Because Gammapedia is open to edits and the content is public domain, anyone is welcome to develop tales about it.

Workspace

The Workspace namespace is reserved for the source code of programs related to the Gammasphere project in some way. Due to the open nature of the Gammapedia, experienced coders are welcome to edit these pages.

Help

The help namespace is for help documents relating to the Gammapedia.

Utility namespaces

These namespaces have no real content, but help in managing content.

Template

The template namespace contains templates, which are small reusable bits of code that can be automatically included in pages. Templates might be used for standard messages (i.e. "you got blocked", "this page is protected"), infoboxes, for giving users a navigation aid through several related pages (i.e. "this article is part of a series on the Intergalactic Troubleshooters"), or simply because the code is damn useful (i.e. link templates)

Category

Categories are used to organize related pages. A category page might contain information about the category and then list all pages included in that category. A list of categories can be found at Special:Categories. To categorize a page, please use the cat template: {{cat|Category Name}} instead of the usual MediaWiki syntax, due to how MediaWiki categorizes pages with namespaces (i.e. "Weapon:Nuke" would otherwise be listed under W using the regular syntax, instead of N). A pipe link - [[Category:Weapons|Nuke]] also does this, but it is cumbersome to type; that's why the cat template does it automatically.
