X

The Book of Abb has this to say on the subject of X: X is a letter that, when placed in a word, title, or proper noun, makes the subject instantly cool. Examples are: Sonic X, Megaman X, X-men, Triple X, Xbox, etc.

Other meanings of X

  • X is a placeholder variable in maths. Many maths tests tell you to "find x", even though the x is right there on the paper!
    • x has been determined to equal 3x + 1.
    • By extension, X may also be used to denote any unknown, not just the ones on your maths test.
  • If you don't want to leave your actual signature on a legal contract or otherwise binding document, sign with the letter X. This is, oddly enough, accepted as a signature.
  • X is used often with the letter O in two ways:
    • In a good, hearty game of tic-tac-toe. This is the usage of X and O preferred by the Knights who say Meh
    • X and O can also be used to represent hugs and kisses. It is unknown what letter stands for what here, but the Knights do not care because this usage is forbidden under the Golden Rule, and is also, by extension, Crimethink.
  • X, when applied to movies, means "this movie has lots of romance and explicit, nude sex and stuff". This is roughly synonymous with the "NC-17" rating, which simply means you must be 18 (originally 17) or older to watch said movie. This is also forbidden under the Golden Rule.
  • X is an abbreviation for:
    • Christ, as in Xmas (Christmas), Xianity (Christianity), etc.
    • Cross, as in Xing (crossing)
    • Trans-, as in Xmit (transmit)
  • Pirates used the letter to "mark the spot", i.e. identify where loot is buried.
