Gammapedia talk:About

This is depressing. (Izwzyzx 21:27, 12 January 2008 (EET))

Well, the really important stuff (Stentor, Captain Pie, Tufac/Teh Face/Nofac, etc) is pretty much already at Sanctum. If people suddenly start caring about The Gammasphere Project enough to want to revitalize it, then by all means y'all should do something. But Gammapedia's lost its purpose, for the most part.
Feh. Everything's changed since November. And I mean everything. Abwayax 12:05, 13 January 2008 (EET)
And what, exactly, was the purpose of Gammapedia to begin with? I just don't understand why you'd close down a perfectly good wiki and start over. I doubt you'll ever get anything like what we have here. We've worked on this place for years. I don't really see the point of closing and opening forums all the time, either, but meh.
Things have changed? Really? I hadn't noticed. <_< (Izwzyzx 23:33, 14 January 2008 (EET))
On second thought, I probably wouldn't just terminate Gammapedia outright. I think simply leaving it as an archive would be sufficient. As for the purpose... I dunno, Gammapedia:About? Yeah, I know it was originally a "let's dump whatever shit we can come up with here" wiki, but over the years it kinda evolved into something that we called the Gammasphere. I think originally we were going to do stuff with this 'sphere, like... I dunno, a Captain Pie cartoon?
But when we consider what state it is in now... Simply wiping it out of existence and replacing it with a big "GO TO SANCTUM" page would, in retrospect, be unproductive... but will it grow any more? Every one of its major and minor contributors is either inactive or simply doing nothing. Neither of us are as into Gammasphere as we were back in 2006. I could, of course, add new stuff to it (I have ideas), but a one-man show doesn't go very far (that is, unless you decide to start contributing again). I could reopen it to anonymous editing and try to spark interest in it again...
... unless you're just complaining about losing your Sysop bit, in which case you can complain all you want.
And as for Sanctum and its relation to Efoa, I wouldn't consider it "closing down and starting over", as all of the posts and accounts from Efoa are now on Sanctum. It was more like a conversion. Plus, I felt I could just do more with SMF than with phpBB.
Oh, and speaking of that, I'm going to shortly restore all those posts you deleted. Nothing personal, but you kinda broke several conversations by doing that. Abwayax 02:28, 15 January 2008 (EET)
"(that is, unless you decide to start contributing again)" I haven't stopped. I just thought Gammapedia was going through one of its routine periods of inactivity. As for losing sysop, my only problem with that is that I can't mess with any of the protected pages anymore, and we have a few of those. And I did not know at the time of posting that the EFOA stuff would be moved. And I also don't care if you bring back all of those posts. I just saw that function and had to try it out.
On a somewhat random note, I'm in web design again this year, and it's in the same room where it was last time. IIRC, that was the room where I wrote that World War 3 stuff and made that FooBaz account. Too bad I probably couldn't do that now. Last time I checked they blocked Gammapedia. :(
I guess I could make an article about The Ninja or something. (Izwzyzx 03:46, 15 January 2008 (EET))
Right. Consider Gammapedia back in business then...? Abwayax 04:11, 15 January 2008 (EET)
