Vegeta is a somewhat important character from another dimension. He is a Saiyan who used to have the power to transform into an ape, but lost that ability very early on. He is most known for his observations concerning Goku's power level, which he states is OVER NINE THOUSAAAAND.

Beginnings

Vegeta is the son of King Vegeta, who was King of all Saiyans on Planet Vegeta (notice a pattern here?). However, the King had no real power - all the real power was actually held by Freeza, a transvestite alien and the main opponent of NoMorph. Freeza decided one day to kill all the Saiyans. Although some - such as King Vegeta and Bardock - resisted, Freeza, being approximately 500 times as strong as the strongest Saiyan alive, killed all of them and destroyed Planet Vegeta.

Vegeta, being one of the four Saiyans left (he, Nappa, Raditz, and Kakarot), became a henchman of Freeza's. Freeza and his left- and right-hand men, Zarbon and Dodoria, would send the Saiyans on missions, typically to exterminate a race of people so Freeza could sell their planet to another race. They were very successful, although Freeza, Zarbon, and Dodoria often taunted them, calling them "monkeys" and suchlike. Vegeta became very resentful of Freeza, and plotted to destroy him.

Many years later, Vegeta and Nappa went to Earth in search of the Dragon Balls. Raditz had been killed by Piccolo earlier on Earth, but before Raditz dies Piccolo told him about the Dragon Balls. Vegeta and Nappa overheard this and were intrigued.

On Earth

On Earth, Vegeta and Nappa quickly owned all of the Earth's strongest fighters - except for Goku, who was training in the afterlife. When Goku returned to Earth, Vegeta discovers that his power level is OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAND. Nappa is sceptical of this until he gets his ass whooped, following his vaporization at the hands of Vegeta for failing his prince. Vegeta and Goku then fought. Vegeta lost the fight and fled to heal himself.

On Namek

On Namek, he and Freeza were both trying to gain immortality. They each sought out the Dragon Balls, killing lots of Nameks in the process. However, to stop Freeza, Vegeta was forced to ally himself with Gohan, Krillin, and Goku. He single-handedly destroyed most of Freeza's army, but later got the shit beaten out of him by the Ginyu Force. He was revived in time to almost get his body stolen by Captain Ginyu. He then thought he was a match for Freeza, but he wasn't. He was killed by Freeza, but later revived.

On Earth some more

He got beaten by Teh Cell, was possessed by Babidi, and then got beaten by Buu. Vegeta just can't win any fights, can he?

In Gammasphere

Vegeta found himself in the Gammasphere after the fight with Buu. Since he was dead, he was just a ghost. The Ghost of Vegeta later becomes an important member of the Imperial Grandwizards of the Great Word.

What if Vegeta hadn't gone to the Gammasphere?

If Vegeta had not gone to the Gammasphere and become a Grandwizard, he would most likely have had his body possessed by an vengeful parasite alien, and then beaten nearly to death by some kinda super android. It's a good thing he didn't, right?
