This new site I'm planning will most likely be a site targeted towards people in my school. I feel that because the official site is so lackluster (no offense to the person who made it, but I see a lot of room for improvement there), there should be an "unofficial" site that is able to get away with much more than any District-sanctioned "official" site. In fact, it will be called a "network" and be composed of two distinct but heavily related sites:

The Main Site

The main site will mostly be an information page. In the center will be a feed of current events important to the school populace. Other sections will include

Calendar

On the calendar, important dates will be marked. The index page will show what's going on 5 days in advance, and one will be able to click a link on there to view the full calendar. At minimum the calendar will have all the important dates given by official sources (assemblies, testing dates, Nerd Fest, etc), but also (if we can pull it off) assignment due dates for individual classes and dates for extracurricular activities (club meetings, competitions, etc). For due dates we'd need to get an inside source in each grade level (which shouldn't be too hard).

Resources

The resources section of the website will have a varied number of resources available for perusal. These resources would include application forms, flyers, practice worksheets, notes, and other miscelleous documents we feel pertain to the student body. Again, having insiders in all four grade levels would be a boon, as we would effectively be able to provide resources to the entire student body. We can go even farther and photocopy assignments and put them up just in case a student loses his/her copy and needs to get a new one. Note: Finished assignments will not be available for viewing here.

Linkage

Just links to other helpful or awesome places.

Community

The community will be divided into three parts. All of these parts will require one login; you need not register more than once.

Forums

The forums will basically be, well, forums. They will be a place to chat and discuss stuff. Since this is targeted towards high schoolers, the rules of the forums will be less strict than those of the other forums I run. The forums will be powered by MyBB and will have to be modified to support features I wish to implement:

Extended Profiles

This will modify the profile.php page to look like a typical MySpace user page, which means that there will be a listing of friends, comments, blogs etc. This new profile page will look like this. I already have a modified (older) version of MyBB that does this (it was used on the old Foo Bar Forums), albeit not in the manner I want.

Extended Groups

This extension of the Groups feature will allow users to create their own usergroups, as well as give each usergroup their own private forum (moderated by the group leaders). Group memberships will be listed in one's profile.

File Share

The file share part of the community is where users will be able to share files with each other. Only registered users will be allowed to download files. A file can be given a name, description, and tags. Files can be searched for by tag, filetype, size, age, and uploader. In addition, the site will record how many times a file is downloaded and (for videos and music) how many times it is viewed. Users will also be able to post comments on files, and rate them.

Wiki

The wiki part of the community exists as a sort of blackboard for ideas and such.
